Thanks for posting - There are many many soft system 'alternative' living approaches to engineering problems, e.g. pile-driving 200mmØ live tree trunks to 6m deep to stop a slope moving. Normally called something like 'bio-engineered slope retention'.
Another great thing with geotextiles is that with a small amount of fabric reinforcement you can save many tonnes of aggregate import, and as geotextiles are shifting to natural materials it all becomes very low carbon, compared to mainstream/conventional civil works.
A recent innovation that's now very common here is fibre-reinforced (metal, carbon, polyester...) concrete. No reinforcing mesh required and yet the concrete is stronger as a little more flexible from the reinforcing being uniformly distributed thru the slab.
For steep slopes there are pinned geotextiles like this: https://cirtexcivil.co.nz/products/turf-reinforcement-mats/ https://cirtexcivil.co.nz/products/turf-reinforcement-mats/ that are reasonable low-cost compered to block, inherently flexible, and you can plants (climbing or trailing) shrubs into the face.
