Anecdotally, I've seen a lot more job postings for firmware engineers lately. I assume these are coming from companies that cannot source their preferred microcontrollers and need to port code to a new chip before inventory runs out. Hopefully this leads to some modernization of embedded software.
- thedracle 5y agoThat's pretty awesome. I moved out of embedded development many years ago, but it's always been my true love as an engineer.
- smackeyacky 5y agoModernization? The deadlines are tight and the focus will be all about getting done as fast as possible before the inventory of replacement parts dries up too. I have ended up raiding the warranty return bin for fixable boards in my small startup. Its easier to repair the returned boards right now than order new ones.
