Are you also going to post Wikipedia articles about various atrocities committed against the Israelis or just those committed by them? Both exist and yet I seem to never find people that are willing to admit that.
- YeGoblynQueenne 5y agoI'm vouching for your comment so I can reply to you question. You phrased it adversarially but I think if we want to avoid a flame war (and I bet we both do) I think it's best to bring this out in the open. So, first of all I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression but this is not about the atrocities (although I had to read the paragraph that says some buildings were bulldozed with people inside several times to be sure I was reading it right). The reason I posted this is because after trying to ignore the news about the recent outbreak of violence between Palestinians and Israelis, I became curious about the reasons for the violence. HN is for posting things that pique our curiosity, so I posted this article here, hoping that the subject is far enough removed in time from the current episode, that it would not stir a flame war. I still hope it doesn't and I ask everyone to not jump to assumptions about my motives, please. In fact I spent a few days reading about the Temple Mount and the history of Jerusalem and its holy places, in general. I'm by birth Greek Orthodox (but an atheist, and an antinationalist to boot) and I have visited Jerusalem, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and have been inside the so-called tomb of Jesus. The Holy Lands have a long and very, very bloody history that goes back thousands of years. I don't think anyone can look at it without curiosity, albeit morbid such. Their history is painful to read, even for someone like me, who has no real horse in that race. But anyway there's no reason to jump to assumptions. I'm sure we can be civil to each other. Edit: I also want to say that, yes, there's a lot I don't know about the atrocities committed by the Palestinian side, but that's because of one-sided coverage of the issue in the news. I'm well aware of that one-sidedness. For example, I've noticed that the news readily show Palestinian funerals, but they never show the jewish funerals. That doesn't excuse anyone and the news orgs I follow are a different entity than the Israeli nation, but the fact of the matter is that there is a lot of disinformation around and many people who are trying to push other peoples' emotional buttons. Well, let's resist that.
