How about taxing vehicles based on their weight instead? Would scale well with trucks.
- wernercd 5y agoTaxing tires at least taxes usage as opposed to simple ownership. Use it more, buy more tires, pay more taxes.
- jedberg 5y agoYou would tax a vehicle per mile-ton, which accounts for both usage and relative wear on the roads. A tire tax is too indirect, because different tires wear differently even on the same car.
- thrill 5y agoIf someone is willing to drive on hard plastic tires to get a few extra miles before replacement, let 'em.
