Neat.
The main page advertises kapp with three features: "Lightweight", "Explicit", "Dependency-aware". I read quickly what these mean in kapp's context, and I realized it's more or less the same three things eventually all of us write our own logic for:
* label resources (app.kubernetes.io/part-of) that belong to the same "app"
* diff and then annotate with hashes of dependent secrets/configmaps so that if dependencies change, app is roll-updated
* order application of resources into stages and pre-/post- lifecycle hooks of those stages.
I already did this, in two projects, my last two jobs. Kapp seems to be something to evaluate for my next one.
- linkdd 5y agoYes, it's a godsend :) A while ago, I asked on HN if there was a tool to convert manifests to an Helm chart[1], without a clear answer I started writing my own[2], now I can throw away my code and contribute to kapp if I need to.
