Thoughts on GitHub vs. Gitlab?
Hey folks - curious to hear what the general consensus is on these two for early stage co's (Seed / Series A funded)? Any experience working with their startup offerings? I saw that GitHub has something through Microsoft for Startups (can't find anything currently?)and GitLab has something thoough only for YC co's. TIA!
- john_cogs 5y agoHey, GitLab team member here. Through our startup program, we offer a free one year Ultimate license to members of the current or two most recent YC batches with less than $3M in funding. More info here: https://about.gitlab.com/solutions/startups/ https://about.gitlab.com/solutions/startups/ If you don't meet the criteria, you can still test our Ultimate tier through a free trial: https://about.gitlab.com/free-trial/ https://about.gitlab.com/free-trial/ I think you'll find there is a lot of value there for a startup that wants to focus on delivering value to their customers (rather than managing a complex toolchain). We also have free SaaS and self-managed offerings that are available to everyone and are widely used by organizations of all sizes.
- gtwood 5y agoAwesome, thanks. I'll give it a look! Q - are there plans to make this available to startups affiliated with other orgs outside of YC? Or allow to apply directly?
- dnsmichi 5y agoHi, the discussion happens in this epic: "Expand GitLab for Startups program past YC-only eligibility" - https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-com/marketing/community-relations/-/epics/41 https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-com/marketing/community-rel... Please share your story and/or use case in there :)
