The issue is that it's up to the developer to implement everything on top. It's very hard for me to believe that Canvas would be more efficient than DOM for creating text documents. Obviously there are limitations to CSS or the DOM. But then wouldn't SVG be a better alternative than straight out drawing pixels on screen?
