MathJax works well for me, but I also don't make extensive use of macros. It's also possible to demacro your tex.
I'll also note that Terry started his site a long time ago, when mathjax either didn't exist or worked poorly. He's used the same latex2html compiler for a long time (as it isn't broken), but the images are pretty silly. Now it's pretty straightforward to make a simple math site [1] (in the style of the bettermotherfucking website [2]).
