The Invisible Developer
- bluefirebrand 5y agoI don't buy it at all. Tech, especially JavaScript, is moving at breakneck speeds. I don't have time to be learning stuff no one is using because I need my resume to show I can use what you need right now. I spent the early part of my career jumping between languages and frameworks and what I found at my last job was people 5 years younger than me being hired into positions above me because they specialized in the tools we were using. Then they replaced me on the greenfield product that I was learning the new stuff on to plunk me on a legacy system that was miserable to work on. So sure. Maybe there value in learning the weird esoteric stuff. There's value in learning in general. There's way more value in following the crowd, at least when it comes to being employed, getting higher salaries, and getting promotions.
