Several years ago I lost my iPhone and tracked it using Find my Phone to a house. I called the Sheriff's Department and they sent a deputy to the address reported by the device. My understanding was they actually went so far as to say something along the lines of "hand over the phone right now or we'll call for a warrant, search the house, and arrest you for grand theft". About two hours after calling I drove down to the Sheriff's office and they gave me the phone. I couldn't believe it.
