IMO employers have an irrational fear that people that work from home don't work at all and say its "the office culture" and being a team.
If their opinion is already set on this, try negotiating half the week at the office and the other half from home. So both of you get the best of both worlds.
- jon-wood 5y agoI've done this before, and I'd argue its more the worst of both worlds. With people who are kind of but not really remote the company never actually adjusts in the ways needed to properly accommodate it - you just end up with people saving things up for "when you're in the office", with connotations that if you'd just be like everyone else that wouldn't be needed. If you're going to work remotely, work somewhere that's already set up to handle that and where everyone gets it, otherwise you're doomed to a career of being given the annoying jobs that don't require much collaboration because people don't understand how to make that work if you can't sit round a table.
