I would think that reading has gotta be better “exercise” for your brain than reading short comments/posts/tweets online? If for nothing else than to exercise your concentration/willpower? Furthermore, writing is the easiest medium for most people to communicate knowledge. Sure, alternatives such as watching a video make things easier for the learner. But video making is not as widespread of a skill as writing. Because of this, if you want to learn from an expert on a topic, or even just about a very niche topic, you’re probably going to have to read.
