I am still using my 12 year old Intel® Core™ i7-870 for gaming, working, and doing other stuff.
I just use SublimeText (not bloated) instead of Visual Studio Code (bloated) and HeidiSQL (not bloated) instead of MySQL Workbench (bloated).
So, for my personal experience, yes this point has totally stood the test of time.
Will I get a new computer? Yes, eventually, when supply gets back to normal prices or when my current computer can no longer be of use to me.
Also: fuck bloated software. It is a much bigger waste of electricity than Bitcoin.
- judge2020 5y agoTrue, but you’re not getting things like language servers or the wide range of extensions available with VS Code. It’s like how GRRM still uses a DOS machine running Wordstar - it works with old software but you give up all new features and conveniences afforded by faster CPUs.
- Shorel 5y agoI have used language servers with Sublime Text. It also has a rich ecosystem of extensions, it is not like VSCode invented extensions or something like that.
