Show HN: Inliner - Pull blocks of code into a single file
- yayimahuman 5y agoI've been working on a VSCode extension that inlines blocks of code so that you can navigate, understand, and write code more easily than with just definition jumping. It’s currently only on VSCode with Python and JavaScript supported, but with more languages and editors to come. I’ve added a form that you can use to sign up to be notified if/when I add support for an editor/language. I’m currently a CS student and I’ve been working on this outside of school. If you guys have any feedback or advice, including what I should work on next, please let me know! Here's a youtube with the demo as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EenznqbW5w8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EenznqbW5w8
- WORMS_EAT_WORMS 5y agoI see you posted this today and didn’t get any feedback — lame... Because this is really AWESOME. I especially think this is useful for beginners. Strictly from a UX standpoint this is really creative. This is like when tabs first came out. Great job and hope you push this further. I could see this widely adopted
- yayimahuman 5y agoThank you so much!
- osullip 5y agoAmazing work! There are a number of languages that use some import / include function to add code blocks. Have you considered adding some configuration where users can define their include function and what should be looked up?
- yayimahuman 5y agoI haven't looked into doing that quite yet, but that's a great idea. I'll look more into what that would look like. Thanks
- ibdf 5y agoI am lost. I see a landing page asking me for my email, language, company... I also see a screenshot. I need to give you my info to see what this is?
- ibdf 5y agoSorry, I see now that's not a screenshot but a video. I have autoplay off, and there's no play button. This is a pretty neat extension, and it really could save a lot of time.
