ARM chips are a nightmare enough for compatibility on phones and tablets, even devices several years old. I don't want to need custom patched Linux kernels just to boot my fucking laptop! Oh but I already know. That's deliberate. They're trying to prevent you from escaping their litterbox with a free OS. Because if you're trapped in the litterbox, all you have to eat are their tootsie rolls.
- mjg59 5y agoContemporary ARM Windows laptops adhere to well documented standards. Booting Linux isn't a major challenge.
- p_l 5y ago"Full" Windows on ARM devices provide well architectured platform, unlike Linux-oriented throwaway designs. And aren't locked (unlike Windows Phone and WindowsRT devices), because that would prevent Microsoft offering them in their highest margin market (Enterprise) where one of their offerings requires customer-managed signing keys for Secure Boot.
