“Real men have fabs.” - AMD founder, Jerry Sanders.
this is the new age. everyone can design a custom chip for its product without "real men have fabs". this is exciting. your custom chip designed for your own product can make your product stand out like Apple M1.
- CameronNemo 5y agoUh, won't this chip be built using Samsung's fab?
- wmf 5y agoSamsung phones, Samsung Exynos, and Samsung fabs are essentially separate companies.
- CameronNemo 5y agoSure, but the last flagship Exynos (2100) used the Samsung 5nm process. https://www.anandtech.com/show/16316/samsung-announces-exynos-2100 https://www.anandtech.com/show/16316/samsung-announces-exyno...
- mr_toad 5y agoCan Samsung do 5nm in their own foundries?
- CameronNemo 5y agoYes, but the transistor density is lower than TSMC's 5nm. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5_nm_process https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5_nm_process
