Look at Chinese Android phones: They get away with slapping an unresponsive and confusing shell onto their phones and still sell millions.
I wouldn't be surprised if this will happen for Laptops soon as well, with custom in-house DEs. Imagine that Chinese OEMs will be happy to get rid of Windows.
