I was in high school, basking in the myth that we programmers would simply pick from among our countless job offers, deigning to work at the cushiest one, spending all day playing foosball, nerf darts, Quake, spinning around in our Aeron chairs, drinking free soda, and watching our stock options make us millionaires while we occasionally sauntered over to the keyboard to peck out a few (godlike) lines of Perl.
I graduated high school in 2000, and it was a rude awakening.
