While I'm skeptical of pushing kids in a direction, the sentiment that programming is taking over the other sciences and the economy, and machine learning is taking over programming, is basically correct.
It's something smart kids will pickup on their own, and worth encouraging her to pursue deep, complex projects she finds interesting.
As a general approach, letting her spend vast amounts of time going deep in whatever interests her, while even taking a year or two away from school, or defocusing on school until the final few years, is the right one. (The greatest waste of giftedness is ekeing out a perfect GPA instead of excelling at things that have no inherent ceiling.)
