US eyes using Japan's submarines to 'choke' Chinese navy
- rektide 5y agoreally interesting tactical point. the quiet but limited range diesel electric subs Japan has do sound like ideal monitors. it's a lot of linear area to cover though. I feel like monitoring drones could probably be produced in some volume to do the job. I'd also be interested in knowing how hard it would be to try to make unmanned mini subs that just follow another sub. subs are so hard to find in deep sea, so, what does it take to follow & keep tabs on one? gonna be difficult to try & stay following a nuclear sub, short of using your own indefinitely lasting power supply, or blanketing the ocean with a relay network of medium range followers to hand off tailing duty.
