Hilariously, “most popular apps” being Zoom getting busted for lacking basic communication security out of the gate when the pandemic hit and a/v comms became important. Please, tell us more about these most popular apps.
- asutekku 5y agoIncompetence is not maliciousness.
- kevingadd 5y agoThey also have a track record of being malicious https://twitter.com/c1truz_/status/1244737672930824193 https://twitter.com/c1truz_/status/1244737672930824193
- slver 5y agoThis argument would make sense only if being less popular meant being better at security than the popular apps...
- joshjdr 5y agoSo the pandemic hit, use of teleconferencing apps shot up, and then security issues were identified in one of the most popular apps. How does that refute the comment you’re responding to?
- supermatt 5y agoFor zoom in particular, they were calling the app e2e encrypted, when it wasn’t. That’s not a security issue, that is a lie. They were also (among other well known apps) caught snooping clipboard contents. That’s not something you do accidentally. What else... reinstalling themselves after you remove them? That’s 3 anti-user practices I can think of off the top of my head - no doubt there are more.
- skinnymuch 5y agoI think the point is that as a small app. The security issues aren’t seen or found. So any parent comments about bigger apps being worse than other apps doesn’t work in this case or have any solid evidence of in general.
