Looks like “a solution in search of a problem” given that long noodles/pasta are already at maximum compression. So is rice, flour and so on. I’m not sure what the beyond is, if not purely culinary. The idea is also not really new, as it’s common to slit e.g. meat and bread to make it behave in certain ways when heated.
