Mozilla gets away with opt-out, I don't see why Audacity can't get away with opt-in.
- Bancakes 5y agoNo they don't, the Free Software Foundation's IceCat cleans that up.
- jacobmischka 5y agoYes they do, because I have never even heard of that.
- approxim8ion 5y agoIceCat is ridiculously out of date at this point. It is built out of the Firefox ESR base. The current ESR is 78.10.1, IceCat is on 60.7.0.
- Bancakes 5y agoThe binaries, yes. But it's just a collection of patches applied to upstream FF when you build from source. I'm compiling 78.10.1 as we speak.
- torstenvl 5y agoDo you want to live in a world where the best thing that can be said about the software you use is that it isn't worse than what other software was able to get away with? Demand better.
- arsome 5y agoEh, I don't see opt-in as a bad compromise here either, it'd be one thing if they were trying to sell the data in some way, but there's beneficial information they're gaining from that data from a maintenance and UI design perspective.
