I'm a member of my community's local Buy Nothing project[0] on Facebook. I find it a decent way to get rid of stuff I don't want anymore and know that it's going directly to someone who can use it. The process is pretty clunky because a lot of people will claim an item, agree to pick it up, and just never show, so it wastes everyone's time re-offering it to other people who wanted it until someone shows up. It looks like they're launching an official app[1], so I'm interested to see how that affects things. I'd love to see something like a reputation history so you can avoid dealing with people who habitually waste everyone's time.
