I don't see the retro complaint they're making. They switched to a common indicator for drive (black box with green light) and an indicator for the type of drive. (7 1/2 floppy, 3 1/4 floppy, network, optical)
They look great to me.
- zabzonk 5y agoRetro because the last time I saw a black floppy drive would have been in the 1980s. And the only black optical drive I've ever seen was on a Next cube - not exactly common.
- darepublic 5y agoI think those black floppy drives were still quite common in the first half of the nineties
- zabzonk 5y agoWell, I think not. Everything back then was either beige, or violent blue for things like zip drives.
- a_e_k 5y agoWhen I first saw the headline, I feared that they'd be switching them out for some kind of horrible flat icon monstrosities. But these are actually pretty cool and definitely triggered some nostalgia for the computer I learned to program on (an Apple ][+ clone). At this point, floppy disk drives are an anachronism anyway so it doesn't really matter which era you depict them from. If you're going to show them at all you might as well go all the way back.
