Plasma's predecessor (KDE 3) is closer to Gnome that Plasma itself. Plasma is as close to an antithesis of Gnome as you could get (outside of tiling window managers) - everything is customizable/extensible

Cinnamon basically makes Gnome feel more like Windows.
