Funny, that means its own intelligence and military are criminal enterprises. I guess they assume their diplomatic communications should be open to all too. Maybe using CB or ham radio to ensure open access?
I do sympathize with the problem of dealing with criminals and terrorists. But when adversaries are everywhere (note the many SIM-catching eavesdroppers around Washington DC, not in Australia to be sure but I bet it’s a problem in their capital too) everyone needs a private option.

Australian LEAs/LEOs are notorious for their corruption and criminal enterprising, see: 'Unlawful' conduct by federal police took huge bribery case to brink of collapse (2017) https://www.smh.com.au/national/unlawful-conduct-by-federal-police-took-huge-bribery-case-to-brink-of-collapse-20170804-gxpd1j.html https://www.smh.com.au/national/unlawful-conduct-by-federal-... These 2 books that focus on events pre-2010: https://www.amazon.com/culture-corruption-Australian-Institute-Criminology/dp/1876067101 https://www.amazon.com/culture-corruption-Australian-Institu... https://www.amazon.com/Code-Silence-Officer-Australias-Survived/dp/1760290580 https://www.amazon.com/Code-Silence-Officer-Australias-Survi... For something less academic I highly recommend Underbelly[1] especially the first 3 seasons and "Underbelly: Infiltration"[2]. While very entertaining, it's accurate on events and shows how much AFP are the most powerful and dangerous gang in town (no matter whether you're in Queensland, NSW or Victoria).
