After a certain point wealth has very little correlation with happiness. Once you get above basic needs the return on wealth to happiness really quickly diminishes.

I for one, would be much happier with a less overtly abusive workplace, and oppressive living situation. Money is not everything, but as I cannot afford a better existence, it might as well be the only thing that matters.
