Survival of humanity. Between manmade and natural threats technical civilisation will be lucky to survive to 2040.
Personally, I am worried about all the IoTs getting hacked either deliberately or by error.
What would be the affect of a major solar flare? Or a SuperNova?
- cableshaft 5y agoI think we definitely have some threats, and climate change is a big horrible looming one that almost no one is taking seriously or doing anything about other than to pay it lip service. But unless we trigger a global thermonuclear war in the next 19 years, I think humanity as a whole will make it to 2040, and at least from what I'm reading, most climate scientists seem to agree about that. We are most likely going to pass a tipping point by then, though, and humanity might not make it to 2100 (or at least those that do will not be having fun lives). I don't really care about IoT's getting hacked. Everything gets hacked nowadays and things are still running. Wow, I was about to ask why you were concerned about a supernova, since our sun is not in danger of doing that for billions of years, but holy crap, it's a real thing that's happened to the Earth an estimated 20 times over the past 11 million years, and is estimated to have warmed the earth 5-7 degrees Fahrenheit each time it has, and there are 6 potential supernova candidates close enough to affect us right now, even. I mean it seems like it's still very unlikely to happen in our lifetimes, but yeah, that would be like almost instant catastrophic global warming. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near-Earth_supernova https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near-Earth_supernova
