Computer programmers rarely train themselves. Very few of anything train themselves. Autodidacts who can become masters of <insert field here> are extremely rare, and even those that have that capability can still pick up a lot of information from someone with decades of experience. Our species seems to learn best through being taught by those with more experience than us.
