Google Relaxes Work-from-Home Rules to Let More Staff Be Remote
- dmitrygr 5y agoThat's quite a bit more sane than their stance a mere week ago (everyone, back to the office, or else). I guess there were enough protests to be heard. Cool!
- gipp 5y agoThey announced they were trying a flexible work week like 9 months ago, and the "news" a week ago was about a return to office announced at that same time. Nothing has changed except that we have more information about the specifics, and "protests" is massively overstating it, NYT articles notwithstanding. Somebody's just decided that every company email from Sundar needs a public article within an hour that totally strips out all relevant context.
- DataJunkie 5y agoNothing has changed? Are you joking?

- spamalot159 5y agoWorking from home has changed my life for the better. I am so much more free to accomplish the things that need to be done in any part of my life. Whether that's writing code, doing the laundry, or finishing a side project. Everything happens when it is the optimal time for it (apart from the few mandatory team meetings) I hope every company continues to relax their WFH rules because it is so much better for so many people.
- ariwilson 5y agoI have mixed feelings. I like the freedom and increased amount of privacy I have at home, but I miss having face-to-face meetings, hanging out with coworkers during breaks/after work, having pre-prepared food, getting an excuse to ride my bike a large distance every day, and occasionally traveling to other offices and seeing what they're like.

- pizzazzaro 5y agoStrange... Workers band together to demand sanity, and things move. They start quitting in droves, even at the core of several projects and. . . suddenly the change we want? Just happens. It isnt even a concession. There's less costs involved all around.
