Periodic reminder that deplatforming is like democracy the least bad option we currently have. Weaponized speech (which is actually an unholy marriage of data driven sentiment management, which would not unreasonably be described as still incompletely successful stochastic mind control) represents a threat to our society culture and government not unlike asymmetrical nuclear or biological warfare. Against amoral bad actors, there is no plausible defense. In such an environment we have no better tool currently than a zero-tolerance shut down of actors who have demonstrated bad faith and ill intent, with respect to the system itself. We do have worse tools, but they are mostly much much worse.
