Bridge is a game where you sit directly across from your partner, but the rules say you are not allowed to communicate with them. There are probably hundreds of things one could do (gestures, coughs) to signal. Good on the bridge community for catching this, but it wouldn’t surprise me if this kind of thing is actually relatively common.
