Ask HN: Married and Unmarried Hackers Why?

Today I opened my news feed an found out that Gates & Melinda were having a divorce. It reminded me of the serveral horror stories (mostly devs falling into poverty due to a divorce) I have been coming across. My opinion now is that marriage has become an oppotunistic venture that is most likely going to end up in people fighting over bread. Married people, what is in a marriage that cannot be attained outside it? I personally have no compulsion for offsprings I am ok with adopting kids. As for the unmarried, what do you feel like you are missing out on? And most importantly Why are you not married?
