It seems like, barring some effect of the fluorescent marker gene on reproductive fitness, the proportion of instances of this gene in the male mosquito population doesn't naturally decrease over time. Given this, perhaps its possible this measure will eventually eradicate the Aedes aegypti in the Keys, through genetic drift.
