I wrote the book on user-friendly design: what I see today horrifies me
- chmaynard 6y agoDon Norman seems to make a good living promoting himself as a guru of software usability. Last I heard from Norman and his gang of sycophants, they were pushing the idea that PDF is evil and should be abolished.
- detaro 6y agoPDF has serious limitations, so for many use cases that's a completely sensible position.
- wodenokoto 6y agoThe authors book "Design of everyday things" is absolutely amazing, and I still think of it when I ask myself why something was designed the way it is, and how it could have been better. I highly recommend it to everyone.
- pschuegr 6y ago"the designers at Apple apparently believe that text is ugly, so it should either be eliminated entirely or made as invisible as possible." I think the push for icons was partially to ease the pain of localization (German, I'm looking at you), but I 100% agree with the criticism of interfaces here. There is a subset of icons that most people who use computers regularly understand, but it's pretty small. Nobody seems to agree on what the icon for "share" should be.
