Epic expert estimates Apple's App Store profit to be nearly 80%
- cblconfederate 6y agojust 80?
- mchusma 6y agoI agree. It should cost them almost nothing to run (on a comparative basis). They made $15B I believe. $100M/year + payment processing fees seems generous.
- ArkanExplorer 6y agoWhich suggests they would breakeven with a 6% cut - probably accurate when accounting for store design and management, app reviews, storage, bandwidth, customer support, payment processing fees. Maybe the solution is to keep the current $99/year development tier for completely free apps with no IAP, but also require a $500/year payment for any paid app, and move to a 10% commission. This would reduce the amount of junk apps being submitted - reducing overheads and customer support for dodgy apps - whilst still delivering a big commercial improvement for developers of paid apps.
- fludlight 6y agoAnd what’s epic’s margin from getting kids addicted to wasting their time (and money) on Skinner box games? Both companies are socially destructive, but epic is pure-play evil.
