Facebook login wall, can't see it :c
- dredmorbius 5y agoText: Elizabeth Zharoff Just received one of the most blatantly irresponsible copyright strikes and takedowns yet. This one removed an entire interview that was 1 hour and 26 minutes long due to song snippet that was less than 30 seconds. The song snippet was used to give context to a particular vocal technique, and the overall interview promotes the artist and encourages people to buy their music. This clearly checks every legal box for fair use (transformative, informational, small snippet, and ADDs to market value). However, we now have to deal with a strike on our Youtube channel as a result of this baseless claim. The claiming company didn't even watch the video. We know - it's unlisted, so the only view on there came from us checking it immediately after uploading a week ago. Of course, I'm submitting a counternotification. This should be cleared in around 14 business days unless they want to pursue a lawsuit (they won't, because they'd lose it). Meanwhile, I can't do the livestream planned for next Monday, as no live events are permitted when you have a copyright strike. There are other restrictions as well. My channel is endangered - 3 strikes and it would completely be taken down. I hate that there are no checks for companies that make false legal assertions like this. YouTube's system favors them. I'd like to see more accountability; at the least, the other guy should be required to watch the video before they do so much damage. Side note: I'm really glad that we have legal guidance that helps us to understand these things. A year ago, I would have been too scared to fight back. Now I know better.
