I am from Romania so I know what communism was about. I don't know how was on the other side, things like "do you want to do X ? are you a communist?", "don't read that book, it will make you a communist".
Thought he main point is if you grabbed regular people from all those different systems and put them on an island on a village they would find a way to collaborate and survive, you just need to not have an extremist with good manipulation skills in there.
- throwaway4good 6y agoDo you guys consider Russia of today communist? Are you sure that communism as practiced today in China is the same thing as it was back in Warsaw pact Romania or Czechoslovakia?
- inglor_cz 6y agoCan't speak for the rest of the country, but I see Russia as a power hungry state that just exchanged some of the less relevant attributes for a new mix. Communism practiced today in China is rather different from the Czechoslovak version. Czechoslovak Communist Party was, after the 1968 failed liberalization, very orthodox and "sinning" against the basic principles, like allowing more private businesses, met a very tough opposition from the ideologues. As a result, the country stopped being able to compete economically, which greatly contributed to the downfall of the regime. Chinese Communist Party took note of this development and allowed special economic zones etc., so the state of the private market is absolutely incomparable to the Czechoslovak one of the 1980s. What is similar, though, is the vigorous effort to prevent undesirable ideas from spreading, especially any kind of mockery towards the big wigs.
- simion314 6y agoI think most of the issues with communist countries was the supreme leader, this guy always think he is the father of the people, the smartest and the greatest dude in the country(I am wondering if they actually believe it and if most of us if placed in such a powerful position we end up with a giant ego - similar like some present day GEOs/billionaires) , I do not see Russia as communist, just an authoritarian state , there might be some in the population with some extremist view but I am sure I could make great friends with most of the regular Russians,Chinese or North Korean citizens. My grandfather lived in the monarchy before communism, the communism and the current regime and he prefers the communism , I do not agree with him but I understand his perspective and from that point of view makes sense.
