The presumption that the world can be divided in to "progressive activists" and "racists" probably has a lot to do with the reason people don't want to express diverse political opinions at work.
- zxzax 5y agoThat's true... but so does the presumption that the world can be divided up into races based on the superiority of certain races over other races. And that expands beyond expressing political opinions. When management is labeling your entire being and your whole family as inferior, it sucks to even be at work. Edit: I don't mean to oversimplify, it's not just an issue of casual racism, for some things it's life and death -- when the company lobbies for loopholes in the law and then dumps toxic waste that overflows into your backyard, would a fear someone felt to avoid expressing a political view in support of that loophole override the fear someone else might have for their kids getting cancer?
- ryan93 5y agoEvidence of managements labeling your family as inferior?
- zxzax 5y agoI have literally had employers say to my face that they will not hire people of certain races, or have them as customers. Thankfully I don't work for any of those people anymore.
- ryan93 5y agoSince you don’t work there anymore you can name them or at least the company
- zxzax 5y agoWithout getting into the details, I don't think anyone here has to worry about becoming a victim of these persons, being accidentally hired by these persons, or accidentally doing business with them to the point where it supports their activities. I wouldn't mention it if I thought it was still an issue.
- da_big_ghey 5y agowhy would you not mention if it still an issue? if you are not fight against, are you not a complicit?
- zxzax 5y agoI assure you I was never complicit.
- open0 5y agoThe world is a big place. Many times I've seen local job ads for computer programmers that explicitly state "male only". Where I am it is common for the hierarchy within a corporation to have a clear separation along ethnic lines, e.g. construction workers will be local, their supervisors will be from a nearby country, and the big bosses will be from another larger, wealthier country.
- zorpner 5y agoYou can't be neutral on a moving train. If you're not fighting against it, you're for it.
- insert_coin 5y agoAnd just by chance you decided what ‘it’ was.
- zxzax 5y agoHow? Most people who ride a train didn't also build that train.
- insert_coin 5y agoThere is no train.
- zxzax 5y agoThen what's the problem?
- anitil 5y agoOnly the Sith deal in absolutes
- jhgb 5y agoThat's exactly what a Sith would say!
- hardlianotion 5y agolove it.
- goatlover 5y agoYou either call it freedom fries, or you're with the terrorists.
