N.Y.P.D. Robot Dog’s Run Is Cut Short After Fierce Backlash

"Mr. Kallos, ...[said] the device’s presence in New York underscored what he called the “militarization of the police.” He said the robotic dogs resembled those featured in the 2017 “Metalhead” episode of the television show “Black Mirror.”" Indeed, there's a resemblance and that's because the "dogs" in that episode were modeled after Boston Dynamics BigDog robot (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metalhead_(Black_Mirror) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metalhead_(Black_Mirror)). Using a robot with such connotations in roles where it'll frequently interact with the general populace was a mistake.
