Maybe you've lost time on unrealistic dreams, but never mind, "no use crying over spilt milk", you've still hopefully plenty of time to live a good life, even just by being a good friend and having good friends. What's the definition of "mediocrity"? For example there are people whose full-time job is to clean toilets! That to me is far from mediocre, it's essential to all of us, saves lives if its somewhere like a hospital etc. Having a job you don't like is no fun , for sure. Maybe you need to quit and go do something entirely different that makes you happy. We shouldn't allow ourselves to be defined by our jobs or how much money we've got. But IMHO too many people do exactly that. Those who don't do that, are free! In my own life, I could have gone further up the career ladder but because of caring responsibilities and a desire to balance work with hobbies, I didn't. So other people get more kudos, more image, more pay. Does that make me mediocre? Maybe. Do I care? No! ;) Well, this is a bit of a random brain dump, hope it can be of some help :) Good luck.
