To be clear, I object to this sentence as nonsensical:

As I explained, in typical transactions value is created for both parties.

The value created in a transaction is orthogonal to the total sum of money exchanged in the transaction. That was the meaning of the criticism. You are correct though in that the author worded it very unfortunately, which undermined the critique.
