Basecamp Didn't Just Ban Politics at Work, It Made an Executive Power Grab
- ixacto 5y agoWell based on this article I sure wouldn’t want to work at Vice, sounds like a toxic nightmare. Basecamp on the other hand sounds great, having introduced a 10% profit sharing and removing a bunch of superfluous programs. You can fight your culture war once you’re done working for the day, just do your damn job. That applies to both left and right IMO.
- spfzero 5y agoOne does wonder how Vice thought it could extract some outrage from this, but try they did.
- ryanbrunner 5y agoThis doesn't sound like an ideal company to work for IMO: > “There's always been this kind of unwritten rule at Basecamp that the company basically exists for David and Jason's enjoyment, At the end of the day, they are not interested in seeing things in their work timeline that make them uncomfortable, or distracts them from what they're interested in. And this is the culmination of that.” It's becoming increasingly clear that the "distracting" political discussion Jason and DHH are trying to shut down are ones that directly involve working conditions at Basecamp, not unrelated culture war discussions or anything like that.
