The Tyranny of the Female-Orgasm Industrial Complex
- hotstickyballs 5y agoFrom my non-expert perspective, it seems like one of the primary functions of orgasm is to immobilize the male in order to maximize deposition of sperm. If so then evolution doesn’t really select for female orgasms if it doesn’t increase breeding success. Has there been any studies on this though?
- zabzonk 5y ago> immobilize the male Lots of other ways of doing that. But speaking as a male can't remember being immobilised much; rather the reverse.
- hotstickyballs 5y agoyou run away during an orgasm?
- zabzonk 5y agoNo, but I do move around a bit.
- zabzonk 5y ago> I have never, to my knowledge, had an orgasm > I must have been about 11—that I could slide my pelvis beneath the bathtub faucet and elicit that delicious-and-then-unbearable sensation So, you did have an orgasm? Or am I missing something? Not that I care.
- hotstickyballs 5y agoYou can have sexual pleasure without orgasm
- zabzonk 5y agoBut "delicious-and-then-unbearable sensation" sounds like an orgasm to me. Perhaps she was expecting too much? But really, god knows what.
- yetihehe 5y ago"delicious-and-then-unbearable sensation" sounds just like before orgasm when you can't have orgasm. Happens simetimes even to those with penis.
- CryptoBanker 5y agoSounds more like the before and after of having an orgasm (for those of us with a penis)
- c22 5y agoThe author muses about this possibility in the last few paragraphs, but seems to dismiss it without further analysis.
- ryanthedev 5y agoI enjoyed this essay. It’s interesting to see how media can mold society’s expectations of self. I believe she could find a partner who loves the journey and is not only looking for the destination.
- yetihehe 5y ago> It’s interesting to see how media can mold society’s expectations of self. It's also interesting to see how society itself can mold expectations of self. If you are too different, there will be people to bend you back or destroy you, as many of us experienced since childhood.
- peter_retief 5y agoKind of my take as well, I liked the honest self appraisal.
