I know .NET doesn't have the sexiest reputation on HN, but I put forth it's the moste pleasant ecosystem to base a career on.
The main language (C#) is mature yet growing, the toolchain well defined and stable, the community mostly dramafree, backward compatiblity excellent and like the post illustrates, Microsoft gives a lot of thought on upgrade paths.
- xupybd 5y agoWhat is it like as far as churn? Web development churn is painful, I imagine .net is a little more stable?
- brtkdotse 5y agoIt really depends on the project. However, a client I was at recently had a codebase that started in 2012 and it still felt fresh. Client I'm at now has a 2 year old codebase and it required almost no metnal reframing to get onboard.
- tester34 5y agoI think because .NET significantly improved in last years >2016 I feel like .NET would be kinda sad technology if Core didn't appear, but nowadays it's great, it feels both mature and fresh.
