The last sentence "There was no importance to what I was doing, but ultimately there was. The diagrams and the whole business that I got the Nobel Prize for came from that piddling around with the wobbling plate." reminds me of Steve Jobs' speech at Stanford - "Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backward 10 years later."
