I think the psychological aspect of warplanes is often underappreciated. This dynamic is easy to miss when you academically think about it, but it's very well understood among those who have experience. The sound of warplanes has the potential to either scare the shit out of the soldiers on the ground or give them confidence depending on whose side the planes are on.
