The Database of Cancelled People
- rvz 6y agoAlso known as the members of the lost and banned. Once a member, there is no 'Please, I can explain' or 'It's not what you think it is'. There is no redemption for high crimes of wrong-think.
- nathanaldensr 6y agoIndeed. There is no redemption among those who practice this New Religion.

- altcognito 6y agoI’m guessing they are going to leave out marginalized voices, this is about politically important people.
- Zealotux 6y agoHave you taken a look at the list? There are plenty of janitors, small businesses owners, students, teachers...
- Vaslo 6y agoAmong the first is a janitor who got canned because he saw someone in a closed part of a building and asked them what they are doing.
- happytoexplain 6y agoIt always baffles me when people say something like "I'm guessing..." or "they probably..." followed by their own image of the evil others, in a context where the example is trivially disproven.
- krapp 6y agoThat's because almost no one bothers to RTFA, they just project their own assumptions into the title, make some boilerplate political hot take then move on.
- frenchtoastto 6y agoReading the reasons why some of these people were "cancelled" is utter madness. How we really become the nation that is so easily offended that reverse racism against you that has you on the defensive to begin with gets your fired? These snow flakes need to spend some time abroad and get a good dose of reality instead of making up their own here....
- mcphage 6y ago> These snow flakes need to spend some time abroad and get a good dose of reality instead of making up their own here.... Are you referring to the authors of this list, or the people on it, or the people firing the people on it? Everybody would claim someone else is the one making up their own reality.
- pelagic_sky 6y agoNumber 20 is a hell of a way to be "canceled"
- dragonwriter 6y agoThe sourcing of the “database" claims in the few I checked is sketchy and indicates heavy spin (e.g., one cites a news article that indicates that certain claims were made in a just-filed lawsuit, the “database” reports those claims as settled fact.) This seems to be an attempt to put a facade of neutrality over political propaganda about the extent and impact of “cancel culture”. EDIT: Oh, and it falsely, with no support at all even in the article it cites as its source, states that the City Manager fired in the wake of the Duante Wright shooting waa fired for his appearance after the event where he said city employees are entitled for due process, instead of because he oversees and is responsible to the council for the police department and its failings.
- happytoexplain 6y agoThere is a version of this list that is reasonable, but the nature of the sourcing has obviously turned it into petty social politics (i.e. "X person I sympathize with is being oppressed by the evil people who are ruining my society", "thought crime", etc).
- lilacat 6y agoThis list mentions Graham Linehan and implies that he was cancelled for a single seemingly innocuous tweet. It glosses over the fact that he devoted years of his life to using Twitter as a platform for harassing trans people.
- ykevinator3 6y agoSeems a little broad brush, some of these are legit some are over corrections ( Kyle rittenhouse actually killed someone)
- panarky 6y agoYou can tell what they mean by "cancelled" by the fact that Colin Kaepernick does not qualify.
- stareatgoats 6y ago"Cancel culture" is AFAIK a term coined by the right against the supposed power of "liberals" to ruin the lives of people with nothing more than "non-liberal" opinions. A cursory glance at this list reveals something else IMO, a "cancel culture" that may "cancel" anyone on a whim. It deserves to be tracked and contemplated. The question is: is social media going to replace the the judiciary now? With no right to appeal? While this particular "database" might need to be better curated, the ambition certainly seems to be in the right direction. This submission did not deserve to be flagged.
