First they got rid of the music stores. Then bookstores disappeared. Without them, there is no fun in going to the mall, haven't been to one in ages.

- randmeerkat 5y agoTheir stonk says otherwise.
- SgtBastard 5y agoWe like the stonk
- ddingus 5y agoLol, and throughout all that saga, are there not still $2'ish shorts out there requiring interest payments?
- JKCalhoun 5y agoYou forgot hobby stores. :-(
- hossbeast 5y agoAnd before that, the arcades.
- ddingus 5y agoPainful, that was :(
- cableshaft 5y agoI loved going to arcades. They're still somewhat around here (including the largest arcade in the US, Galloping Ghost), but they're almost exclusively older games at this point, and they're mainly free-play. Which is still good, but it used to be cool having a stack of quarters and seeing how far you could stretch them. https://www.gallopingghostarcade.com/ https://www.gallopingghostarcade.com/
- nikanj 5y agoI don't think the malls "got rid" of either one. Music stores and bookstores just couldn't deal with the business realities of the post-amazon world. I'm certain the malls would have been happy to take their rent money.
- sunsipples 5y agoIn my hometown in Australia, there was a shopping area (small chain grocery store) and a newsagent. Across the road was a foodhall, real estate agent and adult book store. Once the book shop went, the area struggled to keep customers and it became fast food and people travel to the next suburb for groceries. Maybe all shopping centres really need is access to porn?
